'average' will be deceptive.
Once you get your Trek Book and look at the different treks you might see what I mean.
We took the 'challenging' trek --- the shortest -- maybe 63 miles so average is like 6 miles
but you spend a day in Philmont's base camp then the first trail day you hike 1-2 miles and the second trail day you hike 2-3 miles then 'your mileage will vary.' Philmont does this to get all crews acclimated to the altitude. We did 10 mile days and on our 'rest' day we climbed Baldy and in total hiked 6 miles with no backpacks. Well we did have to get 5 days of food and we made a bad decision to take only 1 backpack to carry it so it was a bit harder than it sounds.

On training treks it might be best to train at the longer distances that you might encounter.
we did a 21 mile training trek in 2 days and should have dropped the adult who complained so
loudly after the 14 miler. I know, I know 14 miles is long and it was and we all were tired but this
person went on and on how what we had just done was stupid when he failed to see any good in
that long of a daily trek. Of course he had the heaviest pack and was the most out of shape but ;)
