Well I am glad to offer tidbits of advice, but sounds like you have things
well under control. 53 years is a long time between treks but and I am sure
some thins will have changed. Certainly the equipment has. Remember when we
called Sears work boots hiking shoes? Now we have al kinds of treking shoes -
some with gore tex, some high, some low, special soles, etc. Makes you wonder
how we ever earned hiking merit badge before all this "stuff" came along. Now
we carry "hydration systems" instead of canteens that usually leaked from the
spout. Forget about the stoves and the food, LOL.

But the mountains will not have changed! and that unique feeling when you
walk into camp under the sign Ithat says "welcome back you made it"

I went first time with a crew from my own troop. The new scoutmaster is a 33
yr old fireman and one of "my" Eagle scouts! It was the hardest thing I ever
did. What a great thing though to see the Troop become a crew and the crew
become a tight group in 12 days!
Then I went again with an old friend of whom I was his SPL as kids. I had a
great time and it was significantly easier the second time! I attribute that
to two things. First and foremost I was 30 pounds lighter the second time ( I
never stopped walking my 4 -5 miles a day). Second I just knew more of what
to expect!

So enjoy this. I remember the multiple trips to the equipment store. The
second guessing on which tent to get , which stove to get , how much weight to
bring etc. These are the days that are no fun, but the fun and sweat does come!
Together fortunately and unfortunately on the trail! One last hint ENJOYS IT
 ALL!
