This is welcome news.
In the meantime, wouldn't it be a good idea to have copies of the
previous field guide available? This would surely aid in getting
pictures for the new guide.
It would be useful to know the - what is this? - but also useful to
know the - where is this? - as the location and altitude play a
significant role in the location of flowers, trees, shrubs and
wildlife.
A Philmont ranger's story found at:
http://www.westtexasscoutinghistory.net/camp_philmont_staff.html
points out that he knew quite a few flowers at Philmont and when they
would bloom. People like this could help with the new guide.
A newspaper article at
http://www.sangrechronicle.com/gazateer.html
describes notable places near the Philmont ranch, and I'll bet the
newspaper has information on flowers, trees, shrubs and wildlife.
A trek report which describes beautiful flowers is at:
http://www.troop-259.org/philmont/phillist/Jun_2004/0331.html
A research paper on the spiritual qualities of Philmont will be found at:
http://academics.vmi.edu/naturewritingprojects/montoro/research.htm
and this report sets the stage to appreciate the flowers which
certainly add to the spiritual qualities of Philmont.
