Patriots' Path Council held it annual Training Weekend for Philmont bound
crews (this year 706C and 717J, eight crews in each contingent) this
weekend. Dwight Stein, a Philmont back country manager was a guest to
review the program.
One comment he made was that we were using packages from last years Trail
Menu - not only is this year's Menu substantially different as has been
discussed previously
(http://troop99packmen.homestead.com/files/2002menu.htm), it is also
packaged differently. This year all packages are for two (2) persons - a
twelve person crew will get six (6) packages per meal, not three (3) four
person packages as in the past.
And yes, they are aware that this will result in an increase in packaging
trash, and have taken steps to minimize (though not eliminate) the increase.
By the way the weekend was a great success, as has been the case in the
past. This year even had a nighttime visit from a couple of bears who
wandered through camp, adding to the Philmont atmosphere we tried to create!
