In an effort to get to an ideal weight and best prepare for Philmont (going
in June 2003) I've been walking and hiking a LOT in my boots. I have
women's Asolo 70 GTX Fusion boots, and they are an excellent fit,
comfortable, no hot spots or blisters, basically no trouble at all.
However, I do have trouble with plantar facitis (tissue tearing away from
the heel bone) which causes extreme heel pain in my right foot. I had
trouble with it in my left foot last year (before training) and was able to
resolve it with exercises and stretching. That isn't working now, and I'm
assuming it's because I'm continuing to walk. I have changed over to
walking shoes most of the time, but still need to wear my boots when on
trails, and for the shakedown trips which we're beginning this month
already! I've read that most boots don't come with adequate padding, and
I'd like to look into inserts. There are many out there, and I'm hoping
someone who has worked through this problem already, will have some
suggestions. Thanks!
