Since Wilson Mesa is techncially not on Philmont Property, anyone is allowed to
hike in the area. You're right, it is part of the Barker Wildlife Management
Area. To get there, take the Ponil road past Ponil and Bent Camps. After you
drive past Bent, you will leave Philmont property. There is a second gate
further ahead that marks the boundary between Barker WMA and Carson National
Forest. Usually, a lot of staff from the Valle camps will park there, so you can
park there as well. I recommed taking a vehicle with relatively high ground
clearance since the road crosses the Ponil Creek a couple of times.
