Jim Arthur asks...

Do you experienced trekkers order sectional maps for each? <snip>

Do you put the maps together and photo copy just the areas that your trek covers?
<snip>

Also how are you protecting the maps, do any of you use waterproofing spray
on the maps?

Comments...

We carried two of each relevant sectional map (check the dates and make sure
they are current - I understand that a 2002 version will be available by the
summer). If you have to split your crew for any reason, each would have a map
to use. Photocopying the portion of the map for each day would work for following
trails, but would be useless for purposes of triangulation and finding out where
you are if you are not sure. The maps can be folded to fit in a gallon size
ziplock, if you measure first and figure out the right fold dimension. On
the trail keep refolding so the portion of the map that includes where you are
shows (of course, you will always be on the crease and have to keep flipping
the map back and forth!)
