I think what Steve is referring to here is jerkied water, which isn't nearly
as light as freeze-dried water, so really isn't as good....it's more of a
19th century approach to survival (it's been poorly documented that
Shackleton took jerkied water with him on his ill-fated voyage to the
Antarctic, it kept him alive down there). I'd suggest using the jerkied
water only as a last resort if you can't find the freeze-dried variety, it
really isn't a drinking water solution and should only be used for cooking
unless you really don't have any other choice.
Again, this should go into the snip bag with the smoke shifters (which tend
to pick up cooking odours) and freeze dried water.
