Dennis Parker asks

a) Are the Philmont provided bags waterproof or do we need to wrap all bear
bag items in plastic to keep them dry?

ANSWER - the bear bags are not waterproof - everything in them that must be
protected from the weather, the other items in the bear bags, or the bear bag
itself (for example, plastic eating utensils, bowls and cups) needs to be in
plastic bags.

b) My son gets regular nosebleeds. He'll bring nasal spray to reduce the occurrences
and extra AP paper to sop up the blood. I'm wondering about the odor problem
of the blood on the used paper. In the only related item I could find, Wally
and Coop's guide talks about used tampons. It suggests either aspirin or tea
bags to mask the odor. Will the used paper from a nosebleed need similar treatment?

ANSWER - Not sure I understand where the used paper (or tampons) would be that
the smell of blood would need to be masked - I'd put them with the other trash,
which would have a much higher 'smellable' quotient. Further, aspirin and tea
bags certainly are smellables - what purpose does masking an odor with another
odor serve?
