Re: [Philmont]: Teva's / sandals

The 2002 Guidebook to Adventure says in the personal equipment list
section 'lightweight sneakers or tennis shoes' page 12. In the clothing
section (page 10) it states "Lightweight, closed toe shoes are
recommended for user around camp and occasionally when hiking. These
shoes will also be used when rock climbing, riding horses, and biking.
Sandals are not generally acceptable but can be used in campsites only".

I have not found other references in the guidebook but as in the past
discussion on this list it would seem open toe shoes could be a problem
around the cooking and fire area.

Anyone read an official "forbidden" on using sandals in the
backcountry for
camp shoes this year? This has been a topic in past years with
various
answers.
