Jason
Thanks for your thoughtful response. After following the threads on cell
phones, walkie talkies, water purification, tents, and bathing, it appears
that many adult advisors are becoming overly concerned with the details of
the trek. While we beat these topics to death, give them CPR and revive them
only to beat them back again, there is very little discussion of how to get
into shape or dealing with the issues of crew dynamics on a long duration
trail. It is my belief that these two issues need to be at the top of the
list, closely followed by terrain appreciation (land nav), another topic that
is hardly ever touched.
Philmont is meant to be experienced, not processed and sorted and
re-engineered. John LeBlanc, where the heck are you when we need your cut to
the chase advice.
