I learned while coaching several baseball and softball teams that I
can't be in the role of parent and coach at the same time. I entered
into agreements with the other coaches that if firmness was needed
during training or games, a non-parent would be the enforcer. It's
amazingly effective.
Tell each member of your family that they are to engage the mindset of
being 4 individual members of a crew. You can be a family when you get
back. On trail I do not hear the name "Dad". I'm "Doug" and just an
older, fatter and uglier member of the crew. :-))
