RE: [Philmont]: recovering type-A leaders and training ideas

Each part of the country has it own issues when training for Philmont.

In northern Indiana, we have access to dune areas along the Lake Michigan
shore line. Hiking on shifting sand is difficult and tires you out
quickly, especially with a 35lb back pack. The elevation is still low, and
it can not simulate hiking over the boulders you will find on your way up
Wilson Mesa or Mt. Baldy. There are no sand dunes at Philmont.

Few can really simulate the actual terrain. Getting there and actually
doing it for the first time is part of the adventure.
