> Pre-Philmont:
> rental car gasoline
Gas out in that part of the country is generally more expenisve than it is
on the east coast. Plan on paying 20 cents or so more per gallon than you
do in Maryland.
> camping fees
Depends on where you camp. You might be able to stay at Kirtland AFB in
Alburquerque for fairly cheap (or maybe free). You can also stay at the
Ponil Campground in Cimarron for $5 a head (you might want to double-check
the price). There are also a few state parks in the area (Cimarron Canyon
and Coyote Creek to name a couple) that might we worth checking out.
> food
Again, it depends on where you eat. Plan on around $10 per person per meal.
> tolls between Albuquerque airport, Taos and Cimarron?
None - I don't think there's a single toll booth in the state of New Mexico.

> Fuel for stoves - how much for crew of 12? Powermax and white gas.
White gas runs around $1.25 to fill a 32 oz. bottle. You won't need a lot
of money for white gas - $10 or so should cover your crew for the whole
trek. Couldn't tell you about Powermax. Don't forget you will also need
some money for maps (which you can also buy ahead of time). Last summer,
ranch maps were $5 and the more detailed sectional maps were $7.50 apiece.
Hope this helps...
