Both our troop and venturing crew have horseback Cavalcade crews this
summer from June 25-July 2. Here is where they will be each night and
the miles traveled each day. Mileage is from the 2003 PACKS booklet
(Philmont Adventure Cavalcades Key to Superactivities).
Expedition 625-CV (50.3 miles plus a practice ride on June 26)
--------------------------------------------------------------
June 25 Base Camp
June 26 Base Camp (at Cattle HQ during the day)
June 27 Bonita Cow Camp 10.3 miles
June 28 Beaubien 10.8 miles
June 29 Clark's Fork 14.3 miles
June 30 Clark's Fork layover day
July 1 Harlan 6.4 miles
July 2 Base Camp 8.5 miles
Expedition 625-CW (46.8 miles plus a practice ride on June 26)
--------------------------------------------------------------
June 25 Base Camp
June 26 Base Camp (at Cattle HQ during the day)
June 27 Abreu 7.1 miles
June 28 Fish Camp 10.8 miles
June 29 Fish Camp layover day
June 30 Beaubien 8.0 miles
July 1 Clark's Fork 14.3 miles
July 2 Base Camp 6.6 miles
Each crew has 11 youth members and 4 adults. The CV crew is from our
troop while the CW crew is from our venturing crew.
On the afternoon of July 2, the crews will compete against each other in
an equestrian gymkhana. Then, we'll know for sure if venturing girls
can really kick boy scout butts! My guess is they can.
If you are in the southern or central portions of Philmont from June
26-July 2 and see a Cavalcade crew, it will be one of ours as my
understanding is these crews will be the only Cavalcade crews in that
portion of Philmont while they are at the Ranch.
If you run across any of our guys and gals, tell them I said hello and
to watch out for the mini bears (I'm sure they will smell so bad the
regular bears will avoid them at all costs). No, I'm not brave enough
to tackle a trip like this! :-)
