Diane writes...." As the lone female in our crew, I need
to carry my whole tent and at less than 120 pounds, can't really
consider anything heavier than 4 pounds."

Diane, (and others) lets look at your above statements, two words jump out,
Crew and "I". It is my opinion that too many people, and crews, try to draw
unrealistic lines between "yours" and "ours". It is unreasonable for your crew
to expect you to carry your own tent and an EQUAL share of the crew gear.
Because your have to carry your own tent by the rules, not by your choice, they
, in my opinion, should help by ensuring you carry a commensurate smaller
portion of the crew gear.

In my crew planning we consider anything the crew shares to be crew gear
including, butnot limited too, water, stoves, fuel, food, garbage, tarps, tents
tent stakes, etc. Basically anything other than your pack, sleeping bag and
personal items as identified in the Philmont Equipment list, is considered crew
gear. We weigh or estimate the weight of the "crew gear" and then split it
accordingly. Even then it is not "equal". Bigger, stronger crew members carry
more than the smaller or weaker crew members.

Consequently, if your tent is heavier or bigger, than someone should help carry
it, or you should be issued less "crew gear", don't sweat it....
