Last year at Baldy Skyline Camp one of our youth foolishly moved a log
near the camp fire ring and was surprised to be struck on his hand by a
two foot long rattler. Luckily for him the snake didn't bite him, just
struck at him, but left two small marks. None-the-less, he was on the
verge of shock and needed serious quiet time to recover. He also needed
to change his hiking shorts. :)
We had seen one the year earlier also, just outside Clark's Fork, in the
meadow by the reservoir. No one got close enough that time to needing
to change their hiking shorts ...

Always be thinking when at Philmont .... compost happens!
