We hike with the pump assembly on the fuel bottle. We rubberband a plastic
bag around the top to protect it from airborne dust kicked up on the trail.
When the stove has cooled off and is ready to put up, we bleed the pressure off
(usually done by an adult) and rubberband a plastic bag around the top to
protect it from dust and dirt that has been kicked up off the trail. It is always
carried on the outside of a pack, just in case of any leakage. We feel this
helps protect the threads and filter, siphon tube, etc. from contaminants and/
or damage.
