We allowed small CD players and or gameboys for travel and touring. All were
locked (our combo locks - no keys) in the Base Camp lockers.
On the trail we had (1) cell phone and (1) GPS. Had an "emergency" cell phone
battery adapter that used AA batteries (same as the GPS).
Several of our group used AA battery headlamps and small pocket flashlights.
We thought about the hand held two-way radios but left them back at base camp
along with a handheld weather radio. We did however have one incident on
trail I wished we had the two-ways (they also took AA batteries). It would have
saved some time & sweat on trail, not a life-threating type of incident.
See a pattern yet........common battery size to be shared within the
group....no need for extra weight due to spare batteries.
I personally carried a digital video camera with (3) batteries for it. Wish I
had brought 4!
Everyone will have their opinions, use them wisely, but in the
end......decide what is best for YOUR trek and YOUR group.
Hope this helps.
