I think Don ultimately "saw the light" and made the correct clarification to the
use of the term "electonic" device. I understood the original post to mean
electronic "entertainment" devices --- things which could ultimately and quite
often do, distract from the Philmont experience. I don't believe anyone in this
discussion was suggesting elimination of flashlights, cameras, or some other
*useful* technology ... electronic or otherwise. As for the use of GPS --- we
discourage it simply because it does little to promote an understanding of
navigation. It's a bit like handing out handheld calculators to 2nd grade
students to teach them simple multiplication and division.
Just my opinion.
