If you are flexible, I would suggest the Boy Scout Koshare Kiva in La Junta
(about 1 hour south and 1 hour east of Colorado Springs). If you MUST be
in Colorado Springs, I might suggest contacting a church or two. Last
year, we drove from Denver to Boundary Waters. We stayed in two churches
along the way, neither of which were the same flavor as our chartering org
(Catholic). They just heard the words "Boy Scouts" and opened their doors
to us. We slept on couches and floors in their youth rooms. I might
suggest contacting the Pikes Peak Council (based in Colorado Springs) and
see what they can suggest. Or Rocky Mountain Council in Pueblo (home
council for the Koshares). Both of these councils are on the web. There
are a couple of small colleges in Colo Springs, but not sure on their cost
or availability. Our troop used to family camp at the Fort Carson hostel
and miss it's availability. YIS. Mike (Treks is 2002 and 2004).

We just found out that the Scout hostel at Ft. Carson
near Colorado Springs was torn down. Are there any
alternatives other than hotels in Colorado Springs?
I've heard of the Holy Cross Abbey and have the
contact information, but I believe that's near Canon
City which is considerably south of Colorado Springs.
Do any local colleges have dorm space, or are there
any local camps with rooms available?
We're traveling by plane and don't have any plans to
be able to camp while sightseeing, so that option is
out.
We're still looking, but I thought I'd ask here. If I
find something other than a hotel I'll post that in
addition to my request.
Thanks.
YIS,
Matt Cole
