RE: [Philmont]: Amtrak packs

>From Los Angeles going east to Raton, they put 4 troops/crews together in
ONE train car. All of our gear was placed in the smoking car on the lower
level of the train car.

GOING home, we had to check all of our packs. Scouts and some advisors were
required by AMTRAK to help load the luggage car with our packs. We pulled
all the straps TIGHT and made sure there were NO loose items. All of our
packs made it home no problem, even with a transfer to another train in LA
that AMTRAK did for us. WE are from San Diego

Make sure that each crew member has a small day pack with jacket/blanket (to
use during cold night on train), snacks, cards, etc. It is really
impossible to get to any of the gear, even when it was in the lower level of
the same car we were in.
