I totally disagree with that implication. In fact, I feel a GPS helps bring
together many navigation concepts that greatly increase a youth's
comprehension and navigation skills. A GPS is no substitute for a map and
compass, but when used with them is a very valuable tool.

BTW- Use of a GPS is now one of the requirements for the Boy Scout
Backpacking Merit Badge. It has always been part of Venturing's Ranger
Award Land Navigation requirements.
