Re: [Philmont]: Packing Packs in garbage bags

We went in 2002 and used the heavy garbage bag and duct tape method also. We
were lucky enough to find heavy duty yellow bags and double bagged the gear.

Yes, we brought enough for the return trip and a few extra in case of a
search.

The airline (Delta) had advised us on this method and had said that if there
was a need to open, they would rebag and retape.

They were very accommodating and even opened a check-in aisle just for our
group....yes we all were in Class "A"...and even escorted us to the metal
detectors...yes I made the mistake of wearing my boots (metal eyelets and hooks) and
yes they also asked me to remove my scout belt.

Hope this helps.
