Wrong! This is a myth, typically spread by well meaning people involved
in training.

The BSA's liability insurance will protect any leader who takes Scouts to
Philmont, even if a Scout gets separated from the crew and walks off a
cliff.

Check the language in the Annual Charter Agreement document signed by the
BSA and each chartered organization. That document is the unit's
"contract" with the BSA and it says the BSA will provide liability
insurance, etc. to the CO and to unit leaders.

If you don't believe me, contact your council's Scout Executive and ask
the question. And, don't believe everything you hear during training
sessions. If something you hear sounds strange, ask to see it documented.
