I have seen several posts in the last few weeks looking for crew members for 2004 treks. In 2001 we added a person to our crew in May to fill a vacancy. It turned out this person was not committed to the trek or the crew and faked an injury to get sent in off the trail. In hindsight we should have not taken anyone along that we did not know and did not participate in crew training and team building.
As we begin to prepare for our 2005 trek we have stated that if you drop out after the majority of crew building has taken place we will not replace you and you lose your money. This may seem harsh but it is nothing compared to the danger and emotional stress this person put his crew through.
