Philmont provided them to our crews during our last two Spring Break Kanik
adventures (2002 & 2004). They are easy to use and there shouldn't be any
maintenance problems. I understand the fuel canisters are available at
back country commissaries. Other than the fact the fuel is more costly
than white gas, the major downside is they produce "trash" as the fuel
cannisters can't be reused. Will we use them during our summer trips to
Philmont? No, and that's entirely due to the fact that we try not to
leave any more trash at Philmont than absolutely necessary.
I'm not aware that Philmont has a program to collect and recycle the
canisters but maybe they do. Does anyone know?
