[Philmont]: Philmont Rangers

Over the years, we've had several young people work at Philmont but 2004
will be the first time we'll have young men on the Ranger staff. They
report to Philmont for training on May 30th.

Our two Rangers will be:

Byron Davis - Byron (aka Stick-Boy) has completed his freshman year at
the University of Dallas where he made NCAA Division III All-American in
Cross Country. An Eagle Scout with four Palms, Byron is a Leave No Trace
Trainer, an Assistant Scoutmaster with our troop and a member of Venturing
Crew 405. He has earned the Bronze Congressional Award. His past
Philmont trips include backpacking treks in 1999 & 2002, Kanik adventures
in 2000 and 2002 and a Cavalcade in 2003.

Byron is well known in our district for teaching "How to Poop the LNT Way"
during our 2003 camporee. If Byron winds up as your Ranger, ask him about
his egg throwing skills.

Creighton Welch - Creighton (aka Bubba) has completed his sophomore year
at Trinity University in San Antonio. An Eagle Scout with six Palms,
Creighton is an Assistant Scoutmaster with our troop and been very
involved with our council's JLT program. He has earned Bronze, Silver and
Gold Congressional Awards. He is one of ten young people in Texas to earn
the Congressional Gold during 2001-03. His past Philmont trips include a
Cavalcade in 1998, a backpacking trek in 1999, a Kanik Adventure in 2000,
NJLIC in 2000 and a 2001 Rayado trek.

Creighton, a journalism major, will probably be keeping a journal of his
experiences at Philmont this summer. If Creighton winds up as your
Ranger, ask him about his underwater canoeing skills.
