Easy there Roman. In my first e-mail, I said that the profile did not have
to be exact. The purpose of doing the exercise is so that your naviguesser
will do his job better than if he just picked up a map and decided to hike. A
Time Control Plan (TCP) is one of the navigation techniques taught by the
National Outdoor Leadership School, one of the nation's most respected outdoor
teaching organizations. In their Wilderness Guide by Mark Havey and published by
Simon and Schuster, NOLS says this about TCPs.

"Writing TCPs forces you to look closely at the route, anticipate the terrain
and obstacles in advance, and helps you create a mental picture of the route
before you get there. Writing TCPs teach map-reading skills, route planning,
and orients you to the terrain that you will cross. Whether you write a TCP
or not is of course up to you. The detail is also up to you. But do consider
at least the rudiments. Trying to envision the route ahead will help develop
you map and navigation skills and will help you get to your destination as
well."

I have found that doing TCPs the night before is an excellent tool for our
crews. By the way, for those of us who enjoy high adventure treks, the NOLS
Wilderness Guide is an excellent resource.
