We just did a second shakedown with a gentleman that has done Philmont and he said the first thing they would do when they got to camp was get the hikers off and slip on the sandals... Either an aqua shoe or a sandal worked great... You did not care if your feet got wet, if you needed to cross a river you slipped them on and at night when you get in your tent you slip them off outside the tent... Worked great! We had almost 5" of rain this weekend (yep, typical Boy Scout campout... Set the tents up in the rain and took them down in the rain...)and I had to bring my hikers in the tent each night and he just quickly slipped off the sandals outside the tent...

Subject: [Philmont]: Shoes, not boots
What should we take for a second pair of shoes? We will be rock climbing and
horseback riding. I was thinking of taking a pair of water shoes with a
solid plastic sole for relaxing in, but I don't know if they will be
acceptable for rock climbing.
What do I tell the scouts to bring?
Thanks,
Scott Sibley
