RE: [Philmont]: Shoes, not boots

I am still trying to figure out what I want to do for my trip. I had
thought sandals would be the answer, and actually settled on the Keen
Newport H2 (see
http://www.onlineshoes.com/productpage.asp?type=brand&brandid=38&brandcatid=&gen=m&pcid=12706).
This is a sandle with a pantented toe guard. They also make an open back
slip-on version of the shoe. First question is would this satisfy the
closed toe requirement for cooking? How often is the second pair of shoes
used in place of the hiking boot? I could maybe see hiking in a tennis shoe
for the day, but I don't know about this shoe. Other thoughts are that I
have some real comfortable moccasins (they would be closed toe, but still
not real hikable). Or do I just get a light pair of cheap sneakers.
Thanks,

Eric
