Dave, I am a bit of a novice, so forgive me if I am completely off base, but
I have always thought that it is the sole of the shoe or boot that matters for
low impact. Because the tread is similar to that of a hiker, I doubt that an
athletic shoe would be much of a benefit. By contrast, Converse, boat shoes,
moccasins & the like have limited tread and therefore wouldn't tear up the turf
- so to speak.
Just my thoughts.
