Philmont might require a few days on broken boots, and camp shoes might be
better to hike in."

I'm curious, how many people have experienced a "broken boot" on any trip?
The most I've seen has been broken shoe strings, but I have never seen a
boot fail, with the possible exception of an old boot that is wearing out.
