The Philmont Health/Medical form asks for recent skeletal/muscular injuries - I cannot believe that the Philmont docs would allow him on the trail.
Don't bother asking your local doc - the final decision is at Philmont - call them.

Subject: [Philmont]: broken collar bone...
I'm not asking for advice, as I know it should all read "talk to your doc".
we have a scout on our crew that broke his collar bone almost exactly 4weeks
before our departure date. While his doc says it should heal in 4-6 weeks,
he is hesitant to go. I asked that he take the philmont physical form to his
bone doc, remind the doc that 80-90% of the weight will be on the hips, and
ask the doc if he thinks our scout will make it.
Does anyone here have experience with broken collar bones, and/or backpacking
with them. How feasable is it to go backpacking with a freshly healed collar bone?
I'm guessing that he will not be able to go, but I thought I'd ask for
opinions/experiences.
thx
