We carry 3 bottles. Fill 2 at base camp, keep the 3rd empty. Some where at
base camp if you have time or at your first camp , filter your fuel into the
3rd bottle. Use your funnel that has the (I can't remember what the
material is, I think its felt???? Some one on the list will know what it
is.) to filter everything out of the fuel. If you don't have the filter,
just pour very slowly into the empty bottle till about 3/4 full. This will
keep what ever if anything in the bottom of the bottle that you are pouring
out of. We experienced water in the fuel in 02, no problems in 03. If you
experience a problem with your fuel, just place the fuel bottle to where the
bottom of the bottle is down hill. This will help keep things in the bottom
of the bottle. The cleaner the fuel the less chance of a problem on the
trail. We only take 2 stoves, MSR Dragonfly's. We filled 2 bottles at food
pick ups and gave away a bottle to a crew heading out when we returned to
base camp. Like the water, you can't make it on the trail. You are
carrying it though.
