RE: [Philmont]: Regarding Fleece (wearing layers)

No, but the more expensive stuff tends to last longer. But for the amount
of wear the scouts will get before they outgrow or loose the fleece, I would
stick to what ever you can find on sale.
200 weight is the most common and the best bet for a second layer vs weight.
100 weight isn't much different from the thickness of a cotton T-shirt. I
usually wear 100 weight when I'm cross country skiing. 300 weight is
overkill unless your winter camping in some really cold conditions, plus it
adds weight to your pack.
If you personally want to spend some big bucks, buy with that is wind proof.
I just bought a Mt Hardware and its makes a huge difference when the wind is
blowing. I have a quarter mile walk to work along a river and the wind is
almost always blowing. Caveat is that it doesn't help when your standing
around in cold weather because your still radiating heat.

Regarding fleece,

Sounds like our crew is on the right track with the types of clothing to
layer. However, there are several different weights of fleece. Any
particular fleece jacket work better than others? Brand?
