This advice is from 2004 Philmont Ranger Creighton "Bubba" Welch:

Wake up early.

Leave camp early.

Sleep in at least one morning; a morning when the hike is short and
easy.

Though tired, take all the side hikes and participate in all the
activities you can, it's only 10 days and you have a lifetime to sleep
at home.

Though the food will be "different," eat it, all. The more you eat and
drink, the better you'll feel and the more you'll get to use the red
roof.

Human sump, all the way.

Duct tape your feet, you won't get blisters.

Keep a journal. If it means leaving something else out of your pack, do
it. You don't really need a pillow anyways.

Enjoy.
