[Philmont]: RE: Boot camp training

In early spring prior to our 2004 trek, I hosted "Encampment Training" in my
backyard. I explained the steps required to set up upon arrival at a camp,
Philmont-style, and why they needed to happen in a particular order. The
crew then practiced the procedure, soup to nuts, including cooking "dinner"
which we ate for lunch. Then we practiced breaking camp. The whole session
took about four hours. For all of the warm-up hikes that followed, setup and
breakdown went smoothly (though often slowly) as everyone knew what was
expected.

We just found out we landed a crew spot in our council's 2006 contingent.
One change I hope to make in the Encampment Training next spring is to have
several scouts from the 2004 trek lead it.
