I'm not familiar with sprint and drift but the catapillar goes like this:
Everyone steps to the side, the last person in line pulls out, hikes past
everyone and steps aside. When you become the last one in line, you start,
hike past everyone and then step aside. From above, the motion would be
similar to the track on a Cat tractor or a tank. You will get different
opinions on how far to hike past the leader before stopping. We usually
just go 2-3 steps. With a small crew, it might make sense to take a few
more steps.
This technique is great for keeping a crew together on long up hills. I
have seen it pick up the moral of our crew as everyone got a chance to talk
as they walked past each other. Also gives the advisors a chance to check
on how the individual crew members are doing.

Subject: [Philmont]: Catapillaring
I have heard about this technique (catapillaring), but am completely
unfamiliar with it. How
does it differ from the sprint and drift technique?
Thanks,
Pete
