I think there are only 2 staffed camps that the water has to be treated. Do
you carry water filters? You can boil the water for cooking. We always
filled all canteens at each staffed camp we passed thru. You will be fine
on treated water.

Each tablet treats 1 liter of water. Based on my memory of commisary stops
- is Philmont issuing 3 or 4 tablets per person per day? Will you be able
to get additional tablets at staffed camps? What about community water? or
has the water use now based on the individual ? This should make cooking
and clean up interesting...

As many have said - this should be interesting to watch.

I just talked to Mark Anderson at Philmont about the Micro-Pur. They are
going to give each of us a strip of 12 Micro-Pur tablets. We will be able
to acquire more at the back country commissaries by trading in the wrappers
of the used Micro-Pur . The Micro-Pur takes out more of the bad things and
tastes better than the Polar-Pur. He said you could bring yours if you
want, the Micro-Pur just gets more bad things in cold water. As the normal,
no one likes change of any kind good or bad. Also this is a thing of what's
best for you and your people. Some will like Polar-Pur better, some will
like the Micro-Pur better. As some one once said on this list, we just need
to agree to disagree, and let it go.
He also said they got 5 inches of snow today in base camp.

   Our troop owns enough Polar-Pur to provide each hiker with a personal
bottle. We've never had anyone get sick from waterborne illness and we view
the risk level as being quite low in the places we hike.
   We usually bring our own Polar-Pur to Philmont and leave the Phil-issued
bottles in our locker (one less thing to clean up upon return).

   Has anyone asked Philmont whether crews will be allowed to bring
Polar-Pur instead of using Micro-Pur tablets?
