Perhaps the ranger's disappointment had to do with a crew that was
overconfident in their knowledge and ability and perhaps a little too "know
it all" cocky during the ranger training. No matter how skilled and
experienced a crew is they need to pay close attention to the ranger
training. Philmont does things particular ways and they do them for good
reasons. And even if you have been on a prior trek, there are always new
things, new procedures, news rules, new information... I can imagine it can
be very frustrating for a ranger training a crew that is convinced "their
way" is best.
