Re: [Philmont]: 4 MAN TENTS

We spent our share of time in tents "riding the storm out" in 2004 <g>!
The worst storms usually came in the late afternoon and by that time, our
tents were usually up and the bad weather meant siesta time for the
advisors, and social hour for the youth. Both of these activities were
performed in the tents as well. Not that I would have changed from the
2-person tents we brought (Coleman Peak 1 Aries), but the roomier tents
would have allowed for better social time, I think. YIS. Mike ('76, '02 &

We took 4 man tents to Philmont one year since we had 16 and 17 year olds
in the crew and all of them were over 6 foot tall. The problem with 4-man
tents is that you are going to have to be very creative to get their
footprint in some the the smaller campsites at Philmont. 2-man tents are
much easier to fit. And remember, the only real time that you will be
spending in your tents is just for sleeping.
