Re: [Philmont]: 4 MAN TENTS

I've camped all over the ranch and the only camp I can recall where placing a 4 man tent was difficult was at Baldy Town. We got to camp late and got the highest camp there - an aspen thicket. We had two 4 man tents in the crew and they had a hard time finding enough room there , but I had a hard time placing my "1 man" Zen there.

We use Kelty Vortex 4's and have had no problems whatsoever with tent space.

We just noticed a note in the book that says you can only bring 2 man tents to Philmont. We have Kelty Gunnison 4's, which fit 4 large teenage boys rather well. Do they really care and what's the story? I understand about not using bivy sacks but what kind of backpacking tents we use seems a little over the top.
