18-20 year old males is not as gray an area as you would think from
Philmont's perspective.
My last trip to Philmont we had an 19 year male in one crew.At advisor
check-in we were highly, strongly all most told that we must consider him as an
adult for sleeping/tenting purposes. In no way did they want him sleeping with
15-16 year olds. We had no common family members so sleeping with father or a
brother was not an option, and we carried and extra Philtent. However, they
were more than willing to considered him a youth as far as the crew make-up
was concerned when they consider how many youth and adults we had.
We had a crew total of 12, 4 males over 21 and what I thought would be 8
youth.
NO.. we had 5 adults for tenting purposes and 4 adults for the overall adult
to youth ratio.
Go figure!
