RE: [Philmont]: Crew gear suggestions

Will it tear when you tie it with cord along the edges? Also, it's not
grommeted, will it tear at the top where the hiking poles go?

My silnylon tarp was very lightweight and, all-in-all didn't really cost
that much, and it's actually designed to some extent for the purpose. I've
heard of Tyvek as ground cloths, never heard of anyone using them as the
tarp.

Has anyone tried Tyvek for a tarp? We used Tyvek as the tent ground cloths
at Double H last summer, these worked great, and they weigh less than
plastic. Why wouldn't Tyvek work for the crew tarp too?

We took the 10 X 12. It was pitched low with hiking poles to cover the
packs.
