[Philmont]: The Gathering Begins....

Philmont staff are on their way to the ranch. I am proud to say that a
young man from my home troop (and venturing crew) will be serving on
Philmont staff this year, our first (ever!)! He leaves for Philmont today.

Ryan Barnhill is an Eagle scout and veteran of two Philmont treks. He has
worked at our local camp, but decided he wanted "more"! All I know about
his job assignment is that he will be doing cons work (in-place, with the
crews, not roving).

For those of you going to the ranch this summer, and run into him, please
pass on my sincerest greetings to "sugar daddy", which is his troop/crew
nickname (much to his chagrin!). FYI, Ryan is a diabetic, but he certainly
doesn't let that limit his lifestyle. This was EASILY accommodated by
Philmont on both of our treks, so if you have diabetics in your crew, tell
them "don't worry". A little bit of extra planning was all it took.

BTW, Ryan told me at his graduation party last weekend that he was told
Philmont STILL has a need for staffers. The figure he told me (I think)
was that they are still short 70 (plus any early-season fallout, I guess).
Mark Anderson (who usually monitors this list) would know best, however.
