[philmont] Too Quiet

Well, I have been busy training. I hike with full pack (35lbs) 7 miles
almost every other day at the local park. Work out at the gym on the most of
the off days with 2-3 miles stairstepper and 3-5 miles treadmill. Now I have
never been to Philmont and I am fast approaching 50. Everything I have read
says I better get in shape. So far, I am 20+ pounds under the max weight. I
have eliminated caffeine from my diet. (Now that was a headache.)

The expedition is not unitil 731 and the boys chose #24. I have whittled my
pack down to the bare bones and have invested in light-weight gear. I used
to backpack as a youth. I generally car camp now. I think that my packing
list has evolved everytime that I go backpacking. My boots have over 200
miles on them. I may need another pair. I am still deciding between some
items. Crazy Creek chair or the recliner? Hard or soft side Nalgenes?

I am going over the trail maps and the camps. This is more for my knowledge
than planning the trek for the scouts. I am going on vacation!

Anxiously waiting to read the trail reports as they roll in.

Steve R.

I can not get over how quiet the list has been this year.

If any of you have served as Rangers at Philmont, they are having their 50
year reunion at the Ranch this summer. It will be a great gathering. Go
