I have a novice question concerning the 3 50-foot, 1/8-inch nylon cords that are part of the required crew gear. Are these for the dining fly or for other purposes?

dining fly, 1 for the middle, 1 for each side.

Mine does – IF the dining fly you are issued does not already have cords attached, cutting one of the 50 lengths in half for the ridge line and the remaining 25 feet in half again for the two side lines will take care of it. The two remaining 50 lengths can then be used “in a lot of areas” as Pete mentioned.
