I agree they are perfectly acceptable tents, though rather old fashioned,
not free-standing and quite heavy. I wouldn't consider them myself, but
then we do lots of backpacking and have our own tents.
However, not *quite* free. You have to supply your own tent stakes,
something like
12 or 16. Still cheaper than a tent, but not "free" :-)
