Subject: [philmont] Suggest a tent
Looks like a great tent.
Can anyone recommend a site where there is an overview of tent choices.
It would be interesting and useful to see what overall choices are
available.

Bear in mind the Philmont tents are perfectly acceptable. They do take
a lot of stakes, and you have to bring your own. However, take a look at
the Alps Mountaineering Zepher 2 from their scout price list.
See http://www.alpsmountaineering.com/ALPSMountaineeringZephyr.htm
<http://www.alpsmountaineering.com/ALPSMountaineeringZephyr.htm>
for the specs on the tent, a fairly lightweight free standing two person.
Retail price is $145, but the scout price at www.scoutdirect.com
<http://www.scoutdirect.com/> is
$80, an outstanding value for a backpacking tent, even when you add
shipping.
I have several Alps tents, sleeping bags and backpacks. Not the top of the
line but not the bottom of the line either. When ordered from the
scoutdirect
price list, the Alps stuff is an outstanding value for the money.
For something with a little more room, look at the Taurus 2 ($79
scoutdirect).
I have one of those, slept in it this weekend at conclave (and many other
places).
Great value for the money. A bit heavier, but for two people not bad.
I've been quite satisfied with their gear and their customer service for
some
years now.
